Per line (if you have anything different than a 25-line transcript)

SCOPING:  How I Work

I specifically work in Eclipse, specifically V.9.0.0.29.

  • I will review the transcript you send me.  Large files (such as .wav files) can be sent electronically via Dropbox or SendThisFile or Google Drive.  Smaller files (under 500K) can be sent via email.

  • Tell me your turnaround time and reference the rates (above) for accurate pricing.

  • Complete a Style Preferences sheet (emailed to you on request) and note any particular stylistic preferences you have. You can also send a sample transcript instead, if that's easier for you.  I follow Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters and Bad Grammar Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells.

  • I will acknowledge receipt of your job by email and will confirm the delivery date and billing rate. The turnaround time starts once I receipt your job, meaning I will confirm via email that I have all the files and will confirm the rate and delivery date.  If the file(s) is sent after 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, I will timestamp it for 8:00 a.m. Eastern time the next business day.

  • I will (try to) correct any mistranslates, correct any words such as proper names or technical terms that are not in your dictionary, edit and punctuate, research or double-check the spellings of any specialized terminology or certain names and places, and insert exhibits when noted for marking. Sending your Block files (Eclipse users) helps me to format any parentheticals or briefs if need be.  Also, I do not read steno notes.  I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Scoofing

RATES:

Proofreading to audio only (25-line transcript)

  • 5-day turnaround:  $.70/page

  • 4-day turnaround:  $.75/page

  • 3-day turnaround:  $.80/page

  • 2-day turnaround (48-hour turnaround):  $.90/page

  • 1-day turnaround (24-hour turnaround):  $1.00/page

  • Same-day turnaround (12-hour turnaround):  $1.15/page

  • Connection Magic (ASAP):  $1.25/page

Per line (if you have anything different than a 25-line transcript)

  • 5-day turnaround:  $.028/line

  • 4-day turnaround:  $.03/line

  • 3-day turnaround:  $.032/line

  • 2-day turnaround (48-hour turnaround):  $.036/line

  • 1-day turnaround (24-hour turnaround):  $.04/line

  • Same-day turnaround (12-hour turnaround):  $.046/line

  • Connection Magic (ASAP):  $.05/line

  • For example, if you have a 28-line transcript that you want scoofed (5-Day) turnaround), take $.028/line x 28 lines = $.784/page.

I work in Eclipse 9.0.0.29 and on a PDF.

  • Scoofing is where I will listen to the entire transcript, word-for-word, against the audio you send me.  However, my expectation is that the transcript is coming to me in its finalized form.  So, in essence, I'm just listening to make sure everything was captures plus I'm proofreading at the same time.  If it turns into scoping, where I am doing more editing than proofreading, then I will contact you to negotiate appropriate rates.

  • It's pretty much the same as previously mentioned (See "Scoping:  How I Work").

Proofreading

PROOFREADING:  How I Work

I work in Eclipse 9.0.0.28 and on a PDF.

  • Send me the .ecl file (Eclipse users), and I will proofread right in the file.  If you prefer to send the audio along just in case I need to clarify a few places, feel free to do so, but it's not to be confused with scoofing where I'm listening word-for-word.  In Eclipse, I will fix obvious errors, like homophones, capitalization, punctuation.  However, if I'm not sure, I will always flag ^ it for your review.  I do not delete text.

  • I also proofread on a PDF where I'll mark any corrections in red and also use yellow highlighting.

AGENCIES:  I do negotiate rates for agencies on a case-by-case basis.

25% OFF:  When you refer a colleague for scoping and/or proofreading, you will receive a 25% discount on your next job (up to 50 pages) upon completion of the first job from your referral. There's no limit to how many referrals you can make!

ABOUT ME

Retiring from education after teaching high school English for 16 years, I thought to use my skill in grammar, mechanics, and usage (from teaching students how to write) and apply it towards proofreading transcripts.  As a graduate from Caitlin Pyle's online course, Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice (TPTP), I am prepared to meet your professional expectations of a scopist and proofreader with outstanding customer service. To ease your mind, I turn to the following references and resources as I proofread:  Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters, The Gregg Reference Manual,  the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells, Google, among others. When you send your first transcript, I'll find out about your individual style preferences.
