SCOPING:  How I Work

I specifically work in Eclipse, specifically V.8.0.0.5.

  • I will review the transcript you send me.  Large files (such as .wav files) can be sent electronically via Dropbox or SendThisFile.  Smaller files (under 500K) can be sent via email.

  • Tell me your turnaround time and reference the rates (above) for accurate pricing.  I am currently operating on a 5-day turnaround.

  • Complete a Style Preferences sheet (emailed to you on request) and note any particular stylistic preferences you have. You can also send a sample transcript instead, if that's easier for you.  I follow Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters and Bad Grammar Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells.

  • I will acknowledge receipt of your job by email and will confirm the delivery date and billing rate. The turnaround time starts once I receipt your job, meaning I will confirm via email that I have all the files and will confirm the rate and delivery date.

  • I will correct any mistranslates, correct any words such as proper names or technical terms that are not in your dictionary, edit and punctuate, research or double-check the spellings of any specialized terminology or certain names and places, and insert exhibits when noted for marking. Sending your Block files (Eclipse users) helps me to format any parentheticals or briefs if need be.  Also, I do not read steno notes.  I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Proofreading

Proofreading only

  • Standard (3- to 5-day turnaround):  $.40/page

  • Expedite (2-day turnaround):  $.60/page

  • Rush (1-day turnaround):  $.80/page

Proofreading to audio

This is where I listen word-for-word while proofreading.

  • Standard (3- to 5-day turnaround):  $1.00/page

  • Expedite (2-day turnaround):  $1.25/page

  • Rush (1-day turnaround):  $1.50/page

  • Daily (same-day turnaround, within 12 hours):  $2.00/page

PROOFREADING:  How I Work

Send me the .ecl file (Eclipse users), and I will proofread right in the file.  If you prefer to send the audio along just in case I need to clarify a few places, feel free to do so.  (Not to be confused with Scoping - Spot-checking or with Proofreading to audio.)

AGENCIES:  I do negotiate rates for agencies on a case-by-case basis.

NEW CLIENTS & ONE-OFFS:  New clients will receive their first 10 pages at no charge. If you're looking for a new go-to scopist and/or proofreader or a back-up, this is a smart way to try out my services!

25% OFF:  When you refer a colleague for scoping and/or proofreading, you will receive a 25% discount on your next job (up to 50 pages) upon completion of the first job from your referral. There's no limit to how many referrals you can make!

Retiring from education after teaching high school English for 16 years, I thought to use my skill in grammar, mechanics, and usage (from teaching students how to write) and apply it towards proofreading legal transcripts.  As a graduate from Caitlin Pyle's online course, Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice (TPTP), I am prepared to meet your professional expectations of a scopist and proofreader with outstanding customer service. To ease your mind, I turn to the following references and resources as I proofread:  Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters, The Gregg Reference Manual,  the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells, Google, among others. When you send your first transcript, I'll find out about your individual style preferences.
